Introduction

Having studied Ceramics GCSE at school many years ago, I have always had a love of clay. After leaving school, I did not work with clay for 25 years until I signed up for a wheel throwing evening class in September 2020, and there my love of clay was reborn!

I am very lucky to have a studio in the garden, which we constructed in July 2021 using wooden pallets. This provides me with a peaceful space to explore and learn my craft. I have very little formal training and learn a lot from other potters and craftspeople I meet in day to day life. Youtube is also a fantastic resource for anybody who has an idea but needs to learn more to make it happen.

Part of my studio set up includes an electric kiln, however I also have a small gas kiln, and another slightly larger gas kiln which I made using a dog crate and ceramic fibre blanket. The luxury of having three kilns enables me to fire different size pieces, from small items of jewellery to larger wheel thrown/coil pots. The gas kilns also provide me with the opportunity to experiment with different chemicals that I would not dream of putting in the electric kiln!
